Quick answer: Build around an actual city need. Trace the good from its source through each transport and transfer leg to the destination, then check delivery performance and side effects. Official materials say cargo deliveries contribute to city growth, but the best chain depends on the industries, distances and demand on your map.
Watch: Industries and Cargo
Urban Games' First Look episode focuses on production chains, industries and how they fit into the transport network.

Think in complete supply chains
A cargo route is only useful when the whole chain connects supply to demand. Before building, write down:
- Destination: Which city or district requests the good?
- Source: Which industry produces it, and does it need an upstream input?
- Transfers: Where will freight change vehicle or transport mode?
- Last mile: How does the cargo reach the consuming area?
- Outcome: Can you observe delivery timing, maintenance and city impact after the route operates?
This is a planning checklist, not a tested recipe. The developer's official Tycoon overview says cities need different quantities and types of goods as they grow, and cargo deliveries contribute to experience and development. Its industry and cargo blog provides the official feature context.
Keep growth and costs in the same view
More deliveries can support growth, but extra distance and infrastructure also bring costs. Urban Games specifically calls out changing city demands, transport quality and pollution. Prefer checking one new chain at a time so you can see whether it addresses a need and what it adds to the network.
For broader planning, read the beginner guide. If you're still deciding how structured a start should be, compare Campaign, Tycoon and Sandbox.
Questions to answer in a live save
- Which currently unmet need should this chain serve?
- Does every transfer work as intended with the available stations and vehicles?
- Does the delivered quantity and timing satisfy the destination?
- Is the chain sustainable after maintenance and pollution are considered?
- Has city growth changed the required mix since the line was built?
Exact cargo tables, industry recipes, vehicle recommendations and profit thresholds need current in-game verification. This page does not invent them.
